UPU Branch Presidents Pass Vote of Confidence in Evelyn Oboaguonona’s Election, Commends Ese Gam Owe for Bringing Urhobos Together
At Warri, Delta state, the UPU national leadership met with UPU Branch Presidents from different parts of the country where it was agreed that the recently organised UPU Canada branch election that produced Evelyn Oboaguonona as President along with other executive officers should be allowed to stand and all elected officers be allowed to complete their tenure in order to promote peace and unity of Urhobo people
The meeting which was held at the UPU House, had in attendance, the President General of UPU, Chief Barrister Ese Gam Owe, the National Secretary, Barrister David Esiekpe, Dame Chief Mrs. Rose Oghene, National women leader,
Ms O Okumagba, Secretary Women group and other UPU National executive officers along with elected UPU Branch Presidents.
The UPU Branch Presidents from different branches after discussing different issues of importance to the Urhobo nation, among other things prevailed on the President-General of UPU to accept the Evelyn Oboaguonona led Executive in order to send a signal to Urhobo sons and daughters across the globe to speak with one voice and work for the common good and growth of the Urhobo nation and Urhobo people under the umbrella of UPU, the apex socio-cultural organization for all Urhobo people worldwide.
At the meeting, the forum of UPU national leadership and UPU Branch Presidents stated that for some time now, some Urhobo sons have been trying to use the UPU’s name to pursue their personal interest at the detriment of the entire Urhobo people. In order to curb the activities of such individuals who form different associations or join the UPU to get elective positions, the forum of all UPU Branch Presidents and the national leadership agreed that henceforth UPU as the umbrella body for all Urhobo sons and daughters would no longer take it lightly with any Urhobo man or woman who is working against the unity, progress and development of Urhobo land and Urhobo people across Nigeria and the globe under any guise. To this effect, the UPU President General directed that henceforth, UPU branch Presidents in other states in Nigeria remain the people that should serve the interest of the Urhobo people and not people that are not part of the UPU leadership. Similarly, in countries where UPU has branches, the branch Presidents are equally enjoined to be the voice of UPU and Urhobo people in other to attract more growth and greater progress to Urhobo land and the people.
Olorogun Dr Austin Authority Akpede, UPU Asaba Branch President and Coordinator of all UPU Branch Presidents while speaking on behalf of all UPU Branch Presidents commended the UPU President General, Chief Barrister Ese Gam Owe for recognizing UPU branch Presidents as the number one Urhobo citizen to relate with in every state in Nigeria or country’s branch Presidents in the case of those in Diaspora instead of people who parade themselves as Urhobo representatives or Chiefs whereas the real UPU leaders/ branch Presidents are being sidelined because of what such representatives want to benefit instead of allowing the real people promoting Urhobo culture, traditional and growth of the Urhobo people to be in control of matters that affect the entire Urhobo people and the 24 kingdoms. Also, the UPU President General noted that he is in discussion with Urhobo kings and other prominent Urhobo people to ensure that Urhobo maintains its place of pride in Nigeria as well as remain a major ethnic tribe in Nigeria
For now, Barrister David Esiekpe, UPU national Secretary says the pace has been set for UPU to give Urhobo direction and quality leadership for the unity and progress of the Urhobos.
