Maritime Stakeholders Set to Chart Way Forward For Nigeria at League Seminar today
All roads lead to the Ikeja Airport Hotel, Lagos today Friday, August 23, as Maritime industry stakeholders converge to x-ray the journey of Nigeria’s marine and blue economy, one year after the ministry was created as a separate Ministry.
Also to be x-rayed are, challenges, roadmap for the development of the maritime sector as they affect all the agencies under the Marine and Blue Economy. Similarly, the progress being made in the areas of exploring the potentials of the sea to the growth of the nation’s economy, ports infrastructure renewal, port economic regulation and indeed customs revenue generation as well as its’ anti-smuggling war under a harsh economic environment will be discussed.
The seminar which is part of an Annual General Meeting (AGM) is being organised by the League of Maritime Editors and Publishers (LOME), will be declared open by the Minister of Marine and Blue Economy, Hon. Adegboyega Oyetola.
The seminar which theme is “Renewed Hope Agenda: The Place of Nigeria’s Maritime Industry” will be chaired by the Executive Secretary/Chief Executive Officer of the Nigerian Shippers’ Council (NSC), Barr Pius Akutah.
Guests of Honour expected at the occasion include the Special Adviser to the President on Policy/Coordination, Ms Hadiza Bala Usman, Comptroller General of Nigeria Customs Service (NCS), Bashir Adewale Adeniyi MFR and Managing Director of the Nigerian Ports Authority, Abubarkar Dantsoho. Others are former Executive Secretary, Nigerian Shippers’ Council, Barr Hassan Bello and Chairman, Seaports Terminal Operators Association of Nigeria (STOAN), Dr. Mrs Vicky Haastrup.
The duo of former Director General of the Nigerian Maritime Administration and Safety Agency (NIMASA), Dr. Ade Dosunmu and Dr. Charles Okorefe, a Lecturer at the Nigeria Maritime University, Okerenkoko are expected to deliver lectures on the theme of the seminar.
Also, the Nigeria Customs Service is expected to present a paper titled: “Challenges of Customs Revenue Generation/Anti-Smuggling Operations”.
The President of the League of Maritime Editors and Publishers, Chief Timonthy Okorocha, said the seminar is part of the contributions of the association to the development of the maritime sector.
The association, League of Maritime Editors, LOME is made up of veteran maritime media practitioners and senior Journalists who have covered the industry for close to three decades.
The League’s President noted that the event which starts at 11 am today will attract some of the nation’s best brains in the maritime industry. This was confirmed by Francis Ugwoke, the association’s Public Relations Officer.
