Lawyer Writes IGP over Escape of Suspects from Police Custody at Ovwian/Aladja
The Aladja people in Udu Local government area, Delta State, have through their lawyer, I. O. Ajibola & Co legal Practitioners and Consultants sent a petition to the Inspector-General of Police demanding for the re-arrest of two notorious criminals, Ovakporaye Jobome (aka Rogers) and Debi who escaped from the custody of the Police at Ovwian/Aladja Police Station.
The two suspects according to the petition were among four persons caught with ammunition
by the Aladja Security Crack Team (ASCT) on December 31st, 2024, during a security operation. All the four suspects, namely Kelvin Dukuye, Philip Faka, Ovakporaye Jobome (aka Rogers), and Debi, were handed over to the Divisional Police Officer (DPO) of Ovwian/Aladja Police Station, Mr. Bulus Musa, under the supervision of the Secretary of Udu Local Government Council.
Few days later, the people in the entire community were shocked to hear about the escape of Ovakporaye Jobome (aka Rogers) and Debi from police custody.
In a letter signed by B. T. Bakare Esq, the Aladja community through their legal representative is asking the Inspector General of Police to intervene in the escape of the two suspects from Ovwian/Aladja Police Station in order to restore people’s trust and confidence in the ability of the Nigeria Police to maintain law and order.
According to the petitioner, ” We demand that the Inspector-General of Police monitoring team, the office of the IGP should investigate the circumstances leading to the escape of the two suspects and re-arrest the suspects Ovakporaye Jobome (aka Rogers) and Debi”. Furthermore, the Aladja community through their lawyer is demanding for the the complete overhaul of the Ovwian/Aladja police station as well as hold the DPO, Mr Bulus Musa and his DCO 1 and DCO 4 accountable for the escape of the suspects.
Also, the Aladja Community, through their Lawyer in the petition is asking the country’s No 1 Policeman, to order the Assistant Inspector General of Police, AIG in charge of zone 5 to swing into action and prioritize the immediate re-arrest of Ovakporaye Jobome (aka Rogers) and Debi and ensure they face justice for their crimes.
