Eyes On A Turn Around As NPA Promotes Staff
As part of rejigging the various Managers working with the Nigerian Ports Authority (NPA),Abubakar Dantsoho, managing director of NPA, recently promoted some staff and appointed a new Spokesman, Mr. Ikechukwu Onyemekara for the authority in a move to reposition the agency for greater efficiency and renewed contribution to the national economy.
Speaking after the announcement, Dantsoho who was appointed recently after decades of industry sector experience and who commenced his career at the NPA as a Youth Corp member said “these appointments represent our deliberate strategy to deploy the wealth of experience of the appointees to national advantage”.
Those promoted by the Abubakar Dantsoho-led Management of the Nigerian Ports Authority (NPA) are Mr. Ikechukwu Onyemekara as the Authority’s spokesperson in his rank as General Manager, heading the Corporate and Strategic Communications Division. Until his recent promotion,he was Technical Assistant on Protocols, a position he held under three consecutive managing directors, beginning with Ms. Hadiza Bala Usman, Mohammed Bello-Koko and the incumbent, Dr. Abubakar Dantsoho; until his redeployment in a memo dated October 4, 2024.Ballah Sarah, who was Acting AGM Corporate and Strategic Communications, has been deployed to the office of the Executive Director, Finance & Admin as GM Superannuation.
Similarly, Wanka Ahmad Yakubu, former AGM Public Private Partnership, is now promoted GM and reassigned to the office of the Managing Director as head of Regulatory Services. Others named to head various Divisions include Captain Jerome Angyunwe, Engr. Richard Unde, Engr. Mukhtar Isa, Mr. Anthony Edosomswan, Mr. Dapo Adekunle, Mr. Victor Gofwan, Mr. Rabiu Dambatta, Mrs Priscilla Maduka, Mrs Zainab Dantiye, Engr. Anas Suleiman, Mr. Adeayo Oni, Mr. Abdulkadir Gusau Mr. RAB Salau, Barr. Nurrudeen Abdulkadir, Mr. Seyi Iyawe, Barr. Ethel Uduehi, Barr. Nansel Zhimwan, Mr. Fatai Oladapo, Mr. Ibrahim Lukman, Engr. Abdul Isah, and Mr. Charles Okaga.
Meanwhile, the authority reorganized some Divisions to align with the direction of the Federal Ministry of Marine & Blue Economy hence it retained Dr (Mrs) Chinwe Nwokolo, Pharmacist Hadiza Sani and Mr. Babatunde Gbotolorun as General Managers Medical, Abuja Liasion and ICT Divisions respectively.
Dantsoho in a memo, described the changes affecting the middle level cadre as a strategic move to shore up the authority’s performance.
Certainly, for a man appointed CEO barely four months ago, the changes he has made couple with the new promotion of staff, has given strong indications to industry stakeholders that the nation’s ports are set for better better service delivery and transformation that will turn around the nation’s maritime earnings through the authority
